Remotion and Cutforge are often compared, but they answer different questions.
- Remotion is a framework for making videos with React code. You describe a video as components, then render it on servers, on AWS Lambda, or, since its web renderer became stable in v4.0.491, in the browser. Its Editor Starter is a template for building an editor on top of it.
- Cutforge is a finished editor you embed. Your users import their clips, cut them on a timeline and export, and all of it runs in their browser.

Pick Remotion when
- Your videos are generated from data or templates, like personalized clips or charts that animate from an API.
- Your team wants to write video as React code and version it like the rest of the app.
- You need server-side rendering at scale without a browser in the loop.
Pick Cutforge when
- Your users edit: they bring footage, trim, arrange, add text and export.
- You want no render infrastructure and no per-render or per-seat fees underneath the editor.
- You want to embed it with a few lines and theme, brand and localize it, rather than build an editor from a starter.
Missing today
Cutforge has no captions or subtitle import yet, no transition library beyond fades and crossfades, and no native mobile SDK. The comparison page lists what it does.
